The Importance of Updating and Protecting Your Login Credentials
Our goal at Robins Financial is to ensure the safest and most secure methods available for you to bank online. To help you keep your accounts protected, we recently enabled a new feature in Digital Banking allowing you to change your own login ID. We encourage you to update your login ID and password regularly for each account you access online, but especially your digital banking account. It’s important that you take steps to keep yourself secure online. Follow these tips to ensure your account stays protected.
Use Unique and Complex Credentials
You should never repeat usernames and passwords across multiple accounts. Using the same login credentials for several different online accounts only increases your risk of fraud. Cybercriminals know that people tend to reuse passwords and usernames, so if they get their hands on your username or password for one account, they will try it for every account. You don’t want to make it any easier for fraudsters to gain access to your digital banking account. This is why it’s so important that your digital banking user ID and password are different from what you use anywhere else.
To meet security standards, your login ID and password should be unique and complex, including a variation characters. Using a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters (such as !,@,#,$, etc.) will help you create strong login credentials that will be more difficult to crack. Your password should never include and personal information, in part or in full, such as birthdates, anniversaries, phone numbers, Social Security Number, pet names, family names, etc. Stay away from any information that can be easily found online, especially on your social media pages.
Update Your Credentials Regularly
Regularly updating your login credentials helps protect you and your credit union from unnecessary risk. Security experts recommend updating your credentials at least every 30-90 days. Do your part to keep your accounts and your credit union safe by updating your login credentials on a regular basis. You are now able to update your login ID yourself in Digital Banking. View our Digital Banking Guide for step-by-step instructions on how to change your login ID and reset your password.
Keep Your Credentials Protected
Above all, the most important thing you can do to protect your login credentials is to never share them with anyone else under any circumstance. This is the best way to ensure your information doesn’t end up in the wrong hands. You should never share your digital banking login ID or password, account number, Secure Access Codes, security questions, or any other account information or identifying information with anybody. Even if someone contacts you claiming to be from your credit union. Robins Financial will never contact your over the phone, in an email or text message, on social media, or by any other means to request this information from you. We do not need it to verify you. Any attempt to get this information is a fraudulent attempt and should be reported to us immediately.
