Tips for Finding the Right Realtor
Whether you are buying or selling a home, your realtor will be your partner throughout one of the most important processes of your life. Finding a realtor should include careful consideration and planning.
Before you start the process of finding your perfect home, you need to make sure you find your perfect realtor. This will be someone who makes you feel comfortable and keeps you informed throughout the entire process. After all, buying or selling a home is likely the most significant transaction you’ll make in your life. If you’ve never bought or sold a home before, it’s especially important to make sure you choose the right agent to guide you through every step. Even if you have bought a home before, but it’s been several years, it’s still important to take your time choosing a realtor who will be a good match for you. Here are some questions to consider when finding the right realtor:
- How long have they been working as a realtor? It’s important to know how much experience your realtor has under their belt. But even if they are a newer agent, that doesn’t mean they can’t be a good fit for you! Ask them what sort of training they have, and what type of support team they have to help them out.
- What percentage of the clients they work with are buyers and what percentage are sellers? This will help identify which side of the buying and selling process they have more experience with, and if their experience level is compatible with your expectations.
- How do they determine the best strategy for each client’s needs? You want to be assured that your realtor will be able to accommodate your unique needs, whatever those may be.
- Are there specific areas they have more experience with? It’s important to make sure your realtor is knowledgeable of either the area your current home is in, or the area you are interested in moving to.
- How quickly would they be able to help you view a home you are wanting to see? If you’re on a short timeline, you want to make sure that they will be able to work with you and accommodate that.
- How long do they usually work with buyers, from the initial viewings to the closing date? While their answer may vary for each of their clients (it greatly depends on each client’s individual timelines) it is important to ensure your realtor will be able to accommodate your specific needs.
- How do they prefer to keep in touch with clients, and how often can you expect updates? Identify their communication preference, whether that be phone calls, emails or text messages, to determine whether or not that aligns with your preference. If you prefer to receive text updates but your realtor prefers to speak over the phone, that doesn’t have to be a deal breaker. But if you prefer updates every few days and they might go weeks without contacting you, that is something you’d need to address.
- How much do they charge? Although it can feel uncomfortable to ask this question, it’s crucial to clarify how much you should be expecting to pay your realtor and that it fits within your budget.
- Lastly, make sure you ask what questions they have for you! This will help them clearly define your specific needs to make sure they will be able to meet your expectations.
Making sure you take the time to select the best realtor for you can save you time, money, and even stress! Carefully consider the answers to these questions so you can rest assured you are making the best choice for you and your needs.
